About the Client

University Academy is a college preparatory K–12 charter public school in Kansas City, Missouri. Their mission is to prepare students to succeed in an institution of higher education and to become leaders in society. Friends of University Academy, now University Academy Foundation (UAF), facilitates educational programs and opportunities that support college readiness, college completion and career success for University Academy students and alumni.

Overview

In 2020, University Academy celebrated their 20th anniversary. Novella Brandhouse was tasked with creating branded materials for Friends of University Academy’s annual gala. We designed an invitation suite and print collateral for the event. Taking inspiration from music award shows, we used graphic elements, such as a gramophone and platinum record, to illustrate their milestone anniversary. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the gala was ultimately held virtually.

The Success Story

The funds raised from the annual gala support University Academy programs, which are available to students at no cost. The programs include Summer Camp for middle school students, Summer Study Abroad for high school students, the College Incentive Program and Career Acceleration Program. The 2020 gala raised close to $320,000 and gained 38 new donors, who donated close to $39,000!
