Are you feeling like your brand needs an update but a “rebrand” feels like a lot to take on right now? Or, maybe it’s just the logo or the tagline that needs a facelift, and abandoning the whole strategy seems like a step too far. These are all valid concerns and why a brand refresh can be the perfect solution.
If a slight pivot in your business or recent growth has you expanding to new markets, a refresh may be a more practical option. Making subtle changes to your brand’s identity keeps you on strategy but gives you the update you need while staying on trend and recognizable to existing customers.
Here are 5 ways to refresh your brand.
01. Make minimal updates to the logo.
Updating the logo with minor adjustments may include a slight font change, adding a circle or square around the logo, or brightening or muting the existing color palette. These are changes that give your visual brand a little facelift without feeling like a brand-new logo.
02. Update digital brand and print collateral.
If your outdated website keeps you up at night, maintain your current branding but look at redesigning your website to feel more modern and on-trend. Additionally, if your business cards and brochures look lackluster, consider a redesign using your existing brand style guide plus new graphics, icons or photography. Finally, don’t forget your social media channels. New photography, graphics, and templates give those platforms a fresh look sparking new interest and engagement.
03. Reinvigorate your messaging.
Put a new twist on your brand messaging. Tweak your existing brand statement, talking points, and supporting copy to better align with your audience or your niche. Are you still speaking to your customer’s pain points clearly and concisely? Do you have a new case study, industry award or client testimonials you can add to your brand story that adds energy to your pitch?
04. Fine-tune your tagline.
This might be an unpopular opinion but we stand by it. If you feel that your brand strategy is still the right direction but you want to invigorate your marketing, consider a new tagline. A new tagline can add that oomph your brand needs to make a splash in the marketplace. It gives you the opportunity for a new campaign and it’s much cheaper than replacing all your visually branded merch, collateral and property with a new logo.
05. Rethink the brand experience.
Ask yourself, “how are we delivering on our brand promise and how could we 10x it?” Are there ways to enrich the experience your customer has both online and in person with your brand? What more could you do to enhance the experience with your product, team, or service that gets people talking and reenergizes your employees? Sometimes a brand refresh is more about how you’re making people feel, and enhancing the word-of-mouth marketing by your brand loyalists.
